MOLECULAR CELLULAR & DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY
University of Colorado Boulder
I grew up in Mexico City, Mexico. Although my name is Ana Sofia, most people know me as Sofi. After moving to the United States, I completed a bachelor’s degree in Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Biology at Boise State University. As an undergraduate I worked in Dr. Cheryl Jorcyk’s lab, where I studied the role of inflammatory cytokines on breast cancer progression. Following graduation, I continued my research trajectory at Boise State. I worked as a research technician in the lab of Dr. Troy Rohn, where I helped develop a transgenic zebrafish model to study the contribution of the APOE4 allele, a risk factor for Alzheimer’s Disease, to neurodegeneration. I then completed a post-baccalaureate fellowship with Dr. Jennifer Forbey studying the mechanisms of toxin tolerance in a threatened herbivore, with an emphasis on the gut microbiome. Now, in the Arnoult lab, I will study the vast genetic network involved in DNA repair pathways.
Outside of the lab, you can find me doing pottery, running, or reading.
